About Quakers

A river runs beside our Meeting House;

A waterfall of reflection pours endlessly across the ceiling:

Metal legs of chairs sparkle as diamonds on the floor:

Bowed heads shimmering against walls.

A simple posy of yellow primrose flickers like a tiny flame.

An elder rises to speak, a shaft of light flowing at her feet.

All is constantly moving in this bright, white room;

An unquiet light lapping at the hour not reaching inward prayers or disturbing the gathered peace.

Discovering Quakers

Quakers are a free-thinking faith organisation with a long tradition of challenging accepted norms, helping the disadvantaged and working for peace.

Quakers seek to balance their inner and outer lives. We seek meaning and purpose by sitting in silence and stillness, waiting for promptings to guide our lives. For many, this leads to being actively involved in working to help others and change society for the benefit of all.

Discovering Quakers is a national initiative to help you find out about Quaker values and practices, and how they might align with your own.

Woodbrooke Online Meetings and Courses

We provide opportunities for learning, connection and worship which are rooted in the Quaker tradition and open to all. Our mission is to foster the ‘vital ministry’ of Quakers today and our learning programme allows participants to: deepen their understanding of the Quaker way, explore spirituality, support their communities and be inspired to bring about wider change the in world.
